The eXPert cSTAR control module, available in single or dual configurations with hot back-up, constitutes a compact functional control module that directly connects the field with the supervisory layer.
The various control nodes are connected on a local area network (in redundant configuration with star or ring architecture) based on the Ethernet standard and TCP/IP communication. The controller supports both typical distributed control architecture (DCS), with nodes located close to the areas of the plant to be controlled, and that with centralized I/O in a single acquisition and control center.

Fields of Application
The adoption of redundant solutions and failover mechanisms for CPU, I/O, multiple network layers, and automation logic, combined with state-of-the-art protection of data, communications, and devices against external threats through redundancy, encryption, authentication, and access control, makes the eXPert cSTAR Controller the optimal solution for ensuring high availability, operational continuity, and maximum security in the monitoring and control of critical processes.
I/O connections can be established through both wired connections and standard data protocols, ensuring maximum flexibility in data acquisition from the field and third-party systems. Additionally, its server capabilities allow data to be accessed by external systems, enabling seamless integration and interoperability.
The modular approach allows the eXPert cSTAR Controller to serve as the foundation of an SCADA system with a centralized RTU or act as an elementary module in a DCS, interfacing with numerous distributed devices across a large industrial plant.
Supports Sequence of Events (SOE) recording with millisecond timestamping, buffering in case of disconnection, and native archiving with a minimum resolution of one second, ensuring full synergy with the eXPert ecosystem’s Supervisory Environment.
The eXPert cSTAR Controller is built with a DIN rail structure and highly robust components connected via a redundant cBus based on CAN FD. This design ensures compactness and flexibility, making it ideal for space-constrained environments while maintaining the reliability typical of SDI’s DualBus Controllers. Additionally, ECM compliance is achieved without the need for a metal enclosure.
Depending on customer requirements, installation environment, and usage conditions, the eXPert cSTAR Controller can be housed within a cabinet or other metallic enclosures, selected according to specific application needs. The final protection rating depends on the enclosure, and ECM compliance is maintained even without a metal cabinet.
The industrial cBus system, based on a redundant CAN FD architecture, ensures power distribution and synchronization signals to all modules, providing efficient module-to-module communication via an 8-pin DIN rail bus connector.
The CPU boards operate in a redundant master-slave configuration with hot backup, managing wired I/O modules via cBus and supporting protocol-based I/O and automation logic.
The eXPert cSTAR Controller supports multiple simultaneous communication channels for both eXPert systems and third-party systems, using:
